COPSY is a community group whose purpose is to ensure the best possible independent youth health & wellbeing service is established to satisfy the needs of all young people who are at risk in Port Stephens.
Caring for Our Port Stephens Youth (COPSY) is a registered charity that was established to evaluate possible services, advocate, facilitate and support an effective, sustainable and free counselling service for youth in Port Stephens. COPSY is initially targeting Tomaree High School, Alesco Senior College and St Philips Christian College but is also setting its sites on the youth who are no longer at school.
Early 2019, will see COPSY launching stage 1 of its free counselling service for Port Stephens youth aged 12 – 18 years at the Tomaree Library & Community Centre.
The service will create “A New Space To Talk”, with no issue being too big or too small. Our highly qualified counsellors and psychologists, will work alongside young people to build skills in manage issues as broad as grief, loss, anger, drugs, alcohol, self esteem and body image concerns, study and exam stress, anxiety, depression, self harm and suicidal thoughts.
COPSY, through our counselling arm, will help our youth understand and manage difficult issues in their lives.
We will do this by providing personalised counselling and early intervention health and wellbeing workshops.
We are focused on supporting young people to manage challenges in the long term, we will not be a crisis centre.
The launch for our new service will be in February and will include a youth concert and a cabaret night for supporters and the local community.
