We are so amazed at how far COPSY has come.
Our first major milestone was the completion of the needs’ analysis report in December 2016; which was funded by our local Primary Health Network and the Port Stephens Council. The report was discussed in public meetings and smaller steering group meetings. These led to making the establishment of a local service a priority.
The second milestone was finding a site in the Salamander Bay Library Community Complex. This is a very good location, next to two local high schools. Port Stephens Council has been very supportive with rental assistance.
Our third milestone was obtaining a major grant in 2018 from the Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation to equip and refurbish the two rooms. The fitting-out will take place before the end of October.
Recently we obtained another major grant from the NSW Government which will enable us to start on our second priority: improved awareness of mental health issues. The funds will be used to run workshops customised for each school. We shall not duplicate what is being done and will work with existing groups to deliver workshops.
Finally, we have managed to put together a small team of psychologists and social workers who are all keen to be involved in the ground-breaking project. The service will be launched formally in February 2019.
Also, we now have a COPSY Facebook and Instagram page.
The only thing missing is YOU!
We would love you to join us from the very beginning.
